Come. Play. Build your legacy.
We are currently recruiting for our re-launched women's soccer team, which will take the field in 2018. Add your name to the history of our 175 year old institution by joining us.
Mary Baldwin University is working hard to reinvigorate our intercollegiate athletics program, and women's soccer is at the forefront of this effort. As members of the NCAA DIII USA South Athletic Conference, we have some work to do to get back on the field at the varsity level. We need high quality players. We need a top-flight field. We need the best competition to help us train for the conference.
The players are our first-step.
Our work begins with you, the competitive student-athlete. We have put our resources into a full recruiting schedule in order to identify and attract the best soccer players available - if you're reading this, you may have even met us at a recent showcase. If so, you're the type of player we want to help lead this effort on the field. As an NCAA DIII school, Mary Baldwin University puts you at the center of the student-athlete experience. You are our mission.
It is the mission of the Mary Baldwin University Soccer Program to empower our student-athletes to pursue athletic excellence while developing the character to lead and serve others.
Next up, a field that will be the envy of any soccer player.
Planning is underway to provide a match surface that will be the envy of any soccer player. Our goal is clear. We envision a state-of-the-art, match-only, sand based, Bermuda grass field, complete with sub-surface irrigation and drainage systems. Site work will be commencing soon with completion targeted for early summer, 2018. When this field is done, you will never want to leave it.
MBU soccer field conceptual vision, at right.
The final piece, the competition to prepare.
Before re-joining the USA South Athletic Conference soccer schedule, we have to put all these pieces together to show that we can compete. This means running the program at the intercollegiate club level, next year. With our future competition in mind, we will run the program at the DIII level - we will recruit the same, train the same, and travel the same. Everything will be run at the DIII level, but we'll play other intercollegiate club teams in 2018. Luckily, we have some of the very best intercollegiate club teams right here, in our own region, and we've been working to establish a competitive schedule against the best of them. Our schedule will, as closely as possible, resemble the travel and scheduling demands of our future USA South Athletic Conference participation.
Keep your eyes open, as we will make future announcements here as matches are scheduled for 2018.
