Volleyball Opens Season at EMU Invitational

The Mary Baldwin University volleyball team will open the season this weekend at the Eastern Mennonite University Invitational in Harrisonburg, VA.

The Fighting Squirrels play Lynchburg College Friday night at 6:00pm then battle Methodist University at 8:00pm.  Mary Baldwin returns on Saturday to take on the home team at 1:00pm followed by Salem at 3:00pm.

After losing four seniors last year, new head coach Ruth Thompson welcomes a young squad this season.  Lone senior Makayla Scott brings the most experience to the team.  Scott finished last season with 62 kills and 124 digs.  Sophomore Brenda Korlison added 70 kills while classmate Brittany Sharon added 141 digs.  Tatyana Johnson and Tamia Baker-Johnson also add depth to the team after seeing limited playing time in 2016.  Sophomore Jessica Hall and freshmen Nyla Issac, Kelley Slack, and Michaela Beverly will also be expected to contribute right away.

The Fighting Squirrels play their home opener Tuesday night September 5 against Randolph then host Hollins the following evening.
