Fighting Squirrels finish strong at USA South Championships

BEREA, Ky. – The Mary Baldwin University track & field team finished the 2019 USA South Athletic Conference Track & Field Championship, hosted by Berea College, on Friday, with four Fighting Squirrels climbing the podium. The Fighting Squirrels tied for seventh in the team standings, but were just 10 points away from fourth 

Day 2 Highlights  

  • Alice Wardy placed second in the 400m dash with a time of 1:00.66, which qualifies her as an all-conference selection. Wardy also placed fourth in the 200m dash, coming in at 26.73 seconds.  

  • The 4X400m relay of Alice Wardy, Morgan HolmesSonje Green and Quinland Musgrove placed third with a time of 4:18.37, setting a new school record and claiming all-conference laurels.  

  • Quinland Musgrove placed sixth in the triple jump, leaping 9.62 meters.  

  • Mary Moran made it to the finals in discus and came in seventh with a throw of 29.01 meters. Moran was also named to the conference's all-sportsmanship team.  

  • Max Doerwaldt made it to the finals in the triple jump, finishing seventh with a jump of 11.34 meters.  

Up Next  

For most of the Fighting Squirrels the season concludes with the conference meet. Several athletes, however, will attend the Liberty Twilight meet, hosted by Liberty University on May 1st
