DANVILLE, Va. – The Mary Baldwin University women's volleyball team fell to Averett, 3-0, in USA South action in the Grant Center on Thursday night.
The Fighting Squirrels went down in three sets (8-25, 12-25, 17-25) as the Cougars improve to 5-0 in league action as the top team in the USA South East division.
For MBU, Rachel Christian paced the team with seven kills to go along with a team-best eight digs. She also added a block in the loss. Olivia Modlin finished with a .375 hitting percentage with three kills, while Deborah Black and Michaela Beverly had a pair of kills each.
On the Averett side, Lauren Montren led the game with 12 kills on .409 hitting and also added 10 digs. Madison Dadez registered eight kills on .467 hitting and Sarah Shropshire finished with seven as the Cougars finished with a .372 hitting percentage. McKenzie Miller collected 34 assists, while Myka Patterson paced the game with 13 digs.
The Fighting Squirrels return to action this Saturday, Oct. 5, with a USA South Tri-Match, which is hosted by Meredith. MBU is scheduled to play Methodist at 2 pm before finishing the weekend at 4 pm against Meredith.
