Mary Baldwin University announced the addition of Amanda McCoy as the new head coach for the Fighting Squirrels women's volleyball program.

McCoy, who attended and played at Mary Baldwin University for one year upon graduating from William Byrd High School in Vinton, Va., is a 2006 graduate of Roanoke College, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Human Performance.

McCoy joins MBU after an extensive career as a college assistant coach as well as a high school and club program director and coach.  In 2023, she was an assistant coach at Southern Virginia, which captured the USA South Athletic Conference championship.  She has also been the head coach at five high schools in Virginia, including a five-year stint at her alma mater and a six-year span at Rockbridge County High School.

At Rockbridge, McCoy's teams won five consecutive district championships, two regional championships and advanced to the state quarterfinal round three times.

She twice earned Regional Coach of the Year recognition and had numerous players earn district player of the year, all-state or other individual awards.  She also had nine players continue their playing careers at NCAA Division I or III institutions following their scholastic careers.

"Amanda McCoy is a very knowledgeable and motivated coach, and we believe she'll bring passion, effort and teamwork to the Mary Baldwin program," said Director of Athletics Tom Byrnes.  "We're looking forward to on court success as well as the expectation of off-court cohesiveness in building the Fighting Squirrels program that the University will support and be proud of."
