Ismael Cortes

Mary Baldwin University Director of Athletics Tom Byrnes announced that Ismael "Ish" Cortes will be added to the staff as an assistant athletic trainer, working under the supervision of Head Athletic Trainer Abigail Hansberger.

"We feel very lucky to add the services of Ismael to our staff," Byrnes said.  "Despite just finishing his education, he has had some excellent opportunities to learn his craft.  We look forward to adding his talents to support our student-athletes for the 2024-25 academic year and beyond."

Cortes is a two-time graduate of Jacksonville (Fla.) University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology (2020) and a Master of Science in Kinesiological Studies (2022).  He recently completed a Master of Science in Athletic Training and his certification at the University of North Florida.

He has athletic training background working for the Orlando City Major League Soccer Club, the Brooks Center of Sports Therapy in Jacksonville, the Jacksonville Jaguars NFL team and two Florida high schools. 

He has certifications in CPR, First Aid and AED certified through American Heart Association, Certified Flexoligist through the institute for credentialing excellence.  His professional memberships include the National Athletic Training Association (NATA), Southeast Atlantic Training Association and Athletic Training Student Aid.
