Rita Hundley Harris came to Mary Baldwin already accomplished in Martial Arts.   During her college days, she continued her Karate, promoted and encouraged by Mrs. Betty M. Kegley, Mrs. Gwen Walsh, and Ms. Mary Ann Kasselman.  Rita went on to win numerous tournaments in Charlottesville and Roanoke, Virginia.  In her senior year, Rita was the Athletic Department’s “Athlete of the Year”.  She became the first female Black Belt to win the acclaimed D.C. U.S. Capital Classics Championship. In 1997, as an accomplished martial artist with excellent skills at her command, Rita was honored by being inducted into the Everharts 3rd Annual Living Legends Hall of Fame in 1997.  Rita went on to earn a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology and her license as a Professional Counselor.

Rita has been employed in the housing industry since 1987, specifically providing housing subsidies to low income and disadvantaged people.  Today, Rita coordinates multiple housing assistance programs for the Housing Opportunities Commission a nationally recognized Housing Authority in Montgomery County, Maryland. Rita is married to Don Harris and the mother of two teenage boys.
