Winchester, VA - Shenandoah University defeated Mary Baldwin College 3-0 this evening in volleyball 25-17, 25-19, 25-19.  The Hornets (14-12, 8-6 USA South) tied their school record for conference volleyball wins.

The home team started the first set strong leading 11-4.  Mary Baldwin fought back 11-13. After a timeout by Shenandoah, the Hornets scored the next 7 points to lead 20-11 and eventually take the first set 25-17.

Shenandoah started the second set leading 14-6.  But with fewer runs, the Hornets took three critical points at 22-15 to take a 2-0 lead this evening.  In the third set, the Hornets again took the lead early.  The Fighting Squirrels worked to stay in the match. Trailing only 18-22, the Hornets stepped up and scored 3 of the next 4 points to take the win 3-0.

Freshman Karla Bethea led MBC with 8 kills while sophomore Tiffany Flesher added 5 kills.  Freshman Sara Valdiviesco added 17 assists while Senior libero Candace Pettway finished the night with 13 digs.

Mary Baldwin will be back in action Saturday in a USA South tri-match at Greensboro College.
