Box Score Staunton, VA - After a disappointing loss on Saturday, the Mary
Baldwin College soccer team hosted Methodist University this
afternoon on the campus of Mary Baldwin College. The Fighting
Squirrels lived up to their name this afternoon fighting off shot
after shot by the Monarchs. Methodist University finished the
first half with 14 shots while Mary Baldwin only had one.
Nonetheless, the score at the half was tied 0-0. In the
second half, Mary Baldwin continued to fight off attacks by
Methodist who kept the ball in their half most of the game.
Senior goalkeeper Erica Gaughan played what many believe to be the
best game of her career finishing the game with 19 saves.
Methodist finally managed to score the winning goal in the 65th
minute off of a corner kick from Marissa Kuzbyt to Brooke
Corley. Methodist finished with 31 shots to MBC's 2.
Mary Baldwin drops their record to 4-5 (0-4 USA South). They
will be back in action next weekend when they travel to Raleigh, NC
to play Peace College on Saturday and Meredith College on
Sunday.
