Box Score Roanoke, VA - The Mary Baldwin College volleyball team traveled to Roanoke to play Hollins University on both Friday evening and Saturday afternoon. The Fighting Squirrels lost both matches 0-3.
On Friday evening, Hollins started the night with 15 kills in Game 1 and easily won the first game 25-13. MBC fought hard in the second game of the night but could come no closer than 25-20. Errors plagued the Fighting Squirrels as they finished with 11 attack errors in each of the final two games. Freshmen Latoya Diggs and Meagan Barron led MBC with 5 kills each. Senior Candace Pettway led the defense with 24 diggs.
The Fighting Squirrels returned on Saturday looking for a different outcome but with 45 total attacks in Game 1 they could only produce 7 kills and fell to Hollins 25-22. MBC struggled offensively in Games 2 and 3 as well only producing 5 total kills and Hollins easily took the final two games 25-10 and 25-9. Freshman LaToya Diggs led MBC with 6 kills in the final set while Senior Candace Pettway again led the defense with 19 total digs. Mary Baldwin drops their record to 1-7 while Hollins improves their record to 3-6. The Fighting Squirrels will start their USA South Conference play next Saturday at home with a match at 1:00PM and 5:00PM.
