Box Score Staunton, VA - The Bridgewater Eagles used a full court press to create the offense needed to defeat Mary Baldwin 49-39 Monday evening in a non-conference matchup.
In the first half, Bridgewater built a 19-11 advantage with 6:34 remaining in the game. Senior Captain Crystal Lewis then scored two buckets and Sophomore Shanice Miles added a three point jumper that brought the Fighting Squirrels to within one 18-19 with 2:40 remaining in the half. Bridgewater then added two jump shots to take a five point advantage into the locker room.
Mary Baldwin struggled offensively in the second half, shooting just 25%. The Fighting Squirrels only found the basket twice with 10:50 remaining in the game while Bridgewater took advantage and built a 36-22 lead. MBC refused to quit and cut the lead to six with a jump shot by Kelsey Still at 8:39. Bridgewater then went on their own run outscoring MBC 13-2 in the next 4 minutes to take a decisive lead 49-32.
Shanice Miles led MBC with 9 points, all from behind the arc, while Sabrina Desper pulled down 9 rebounds.
The Fighting Squirrels will be back in action Wednesday evening when they host USA South Conference rival Ferrum College. Tip off is at 7:00PM.
