Box Score Staunton, VA - The Mary Baldwin College basketball team lost
their home opener to Hollins University 66-26 Tuesday evening.
The visitors opened up a 21-3 lead in the first 8 minutes and
rolled to their first win of the season.
Hollins pulled down 60 rebounds including 22 offensive rebounds.
Mary Baldwin could only grab 27 for the evening. Chanci
Wright led Hollins with 11 rebounds while five of her teammates
added 6 each. Shanice Miles led Mary Baldwin with 8 rebounds
and was followed closely by Precious Parker with 7.
Hollins shooting percentage (43.8%) was also a big difference in
the game. While they were able to create easy baskets, the
Fighting Squirrels struggled all night offensively. MBC made
just 18% from the floor and just 15.4% from behind the arc.
Senior Shamanda Washington led the Fighting Squirrels with 11
points. She was followed by freshman Sheridan Lawrence with
7.
Mary Baldwin College (0-3, 0-0 USAS) will have the remainder of
the Thanksgiving holiday off. They will next take the floor
on Saturday, December 1 when they host Methodist University in
their first conference matchup of the season.
