Staunton, VA - The Mary Baldwin College basketball team fell to Methodist University 16-96 this afternoon in their first conference matchup of the season.

The Monarchs pulled out to an early 21-5 lead with just under 12:00 remaining in the half.  The visitors used a full court defense to create numerous turnovers and high percentage shots.  The Fighting Squirrels struggled all afternoon shooting just 14.7% from the floor.  

Methodist University gave their bench equal playing time which spread out their scoring.  Maria Jones led the team with 14 points going 4-4 from behind the arc.  She was followed closely by Chandler Christensen with 11 points and Emily Huneycutt with 10.

Freshman Sheridan Lawrence led Mary Baldwin in rebounds with 11.  She followed by Senior Shamanda Washington with 9.  Both players added 4 points to MBC's effort this afternoon. 

Mary Baldwin College (0-4, 0-1 USAS) have little time to recover.  On Sunday, they host Greensboro College in their second USA South contest.  Game time is 2:00pm.
