Box Score Staunton, VA- Mary Baldwin College faced the Avenging Angels of Meredith College at home on Saturday. The Fighting Squirrels built a convincing lead in the first half when Sabrina Desper drilled a three-point shot that gave the Fighting Squirrels a 13-point lead with 6:05 in the half. Mary Baldwin fell behind when Meredith College finished the half with four three-point shots taking a two-point advantage into the locker room 37-35.
In the second half, the Avenging Angels continued to build their lead going up by 8 with less than four minutes into the half. The Fighting Squirrels then came back to tie the game at 55. Senior Captain Sabrina Desper hit the 1000 point mark in her career when she sank a jumper at the 10:56 mark that put MBC ahead 57-55. The intensity rose as the game continued, peaking in the last minute when Meredith's Megan Rahn brought the score to 87-88. In the final few seconds, Shanice Miles made the critical free throws that secured Mary Baldwin's victory.
Sabrina Desper and Meagan Barron finished the day with 26 points. Shanice Miles followed closely with 19 points. Desper also grabbed 13 rebounds while Meagan Barron added 11.
Mary Baldwin will be on the road Monday afternoon when they travel to Southern VA University to play a non-conference game.
