Box Score Staunton, VA - Mary Baldwin College started the game tonight on
fire shooting 50% from the floor and over 62% from behind the arc
in the first half. The Fighting Squirrels built an 11-point
lead in the first half behind the one-two punch of Shanice Miles
who went 8-11 from the floor and 4-6 from behind the arc and
Sabrina Desper who shot 6-9 and made her only three-point attempt
in the first half. Their halftime score of 44 was their
highest this season.
In the second half, Mary Baldwin, 6-14 (4-11 USAS), continued to
build their lead behind great passing and great shooting but North
Carolina Wesleyan wasn't going to give away any wins easily.
The Battling Bishops lived up to their name as they cut the
lead to four with 3:47 remaining in the game. But unlike their
first meeting, it was Mary Baldwin who refused to give up the lead
in the final minutes. Shanice Miles made four critical free
throws and Kelsey Still added another to take a much needed
conference win 78-69.
Sophomore Shanice Miles led all scorers with 28 points.
Senior Sabrina Desper finished the night with 27 points and
16 rebounds as she draws closer to her one thousand career-point
milestone at MBC. Junior Kelsey Still added 10 points and 9
rebounds.
Mary Baldwin College will be home Saturday afternoon when they
host Meredith College. They will be looking for another
critical conference win. Game time is 2:00PM.
