Box Score Staunton, VA - The Mary Baldwin College soccer team hosted
Ferrum College this afternoon in their second conference matchup.
The Ferrum Panthers prevailed 5-1 but the Fighting Squirrels
remained closed until the final seconds of the first half.
Although Ferrum outshot Mary Baldwin 13-4 in the first half, the
game remained scoreless until the Panther's Maryann Castaneda
scored off of a pass from Morgan Funck at the 36:04 minute mark.
Mary Baldwin's Caitlin Novak answered quickly tying the game
within the next two minutes. The game remained tied until
Ferrum College scored off of a corner kick with seconds remaining
in the half.
Ferrum struck quickly in the second half, when Kara Pegram
scored off of a pass from Megan Webb at the 46:32 minute mark.
Mary Baldwin struggled offensively during the remainder of
the game as Ferrum (3-4, 2-0 USAS) rolled to a 5-1 win.
Erin Dullahan remained in the goal for Mary Baldwin during the
entire game finishing with 18 saves.
Mary Baldwin (4-2, 0-2 USAS) will have little time to rest as
they host Maryville (Tenn.) Sunday afternoon at 2:00PM. This
will be the first meeting for the two teams. Maryville became
full members of the USA South this year.
