Box Score STAUNTON, VA - Ferrum College won their first conference match of the season this evening when they stopped Mary Baldwin's comeback in Set 4 taking a 3-1 win.
At the start of the match, it looked like the visitors would sweep the Fighting Squirrels when they took the first set 25-18 and the second set 25-19. In the third set, Mary Baldwin took an early 5-10 lead and held that five point lead at 17-12. Ferrum answered, taking advantage of some errors by Mary Baldwin. The Panthers tied the score at 19. But, the home team had the fans and the momentum. With the score tied again at 22, MBC took the final three points and the match.
In the fourth set, Mary Baldwin kept their momentum building a 17-12 lead but Ferrum refused to quit. With the home team leading 22-15, Ferrum scored nine unanswered points before taking a 25-23 win and the match 3-1.
After the match, Coach Yee said, "We started a little out of sorts in the first two sets. Our energy was really good in the last two sets and we got into a better rhythm as we learned more about them. It came down to little plays for us and we are working on learning how to close out sets."
Ferrum improves their record to 2-10 (1-6 USA South) while Mary Baldwin falls to 0-15 (0-7 USA South.) The Fighting Squirrels travel to Roanoke College Wednesday evening for a 7:00pm start.
