Box Score STAUNTON, VA - The statistics don't tell the story of Mary
Baldwin's 3-0 loss to Ferrum College in women's soccer this
afternoon.
Despite being outshot 13-1 in the first half, the Fighting
Squirrels held the Panthers scoreless in those 45 minutes of play.
Some of Ferrum's best opportunities came from the 7 corner kicks
they had.
At the 51:00 minute mark in the second half, Ferrum's Morgan
Funck scored what would be the winning goal off of a breakaway pass
from Kimberlee Holness. Mary Baldwin continued to deny the
visitors who added 16 shots in the second half. Finally with
four minutes remaining, Ferrum scored back-to-back goals earning
the USA South Conference win.
Sara Brown guarded the net most of the game for the Fighting
Squirrels, finishing with 7 saves. Erin Dullahan played the
last 20 minutes when Brown was injured. She finished with 3
saves.
"We lost a good game but we shouldn't have lost," was all a
disappointed Head Coach Homes Tehrani could say. They knew
the opportunity was there for a conference win.
Mary Baldwin College, 5-7 (0-7 USAS), will have little time to
rest. They play Piedmont College tomorrow afternoon in
Georgia.
