Box Score Raleigh, NC - William Peace University defeated Mary Baldwin
College this evening in volleyball 3-0 (25-18, 25-11, 25-14).
In the first set, the score was tied at eight before the Pacers
took the lead with two service aces and three kills. The
Fighting Squirrels came back to within two on a kill by Katelyn
Rice. The home team then scored eight of the next nine points
to build a significant lead and take the set.
In the second set, Mary Baldwin found themselves trailing by
only three midway through the match before the Pacers outscored the
Fighting Squirrels 14-3 to easily take the second set.
The final set proved to be more of the same. With the
score tied 9-9, the Pacers scored the next nine points to take a
decisive lead, the third set, and the match.
William Peace tallied 35 kills and 12 service aces.
Megan Mansfield led William Peace with 11 kills while Katelyn
Rice equaled her effort with 11 kills for Mary Baldwin. Sara
Valdivieso added 12 assists for the visitors.
Coach Yee described the night saying, "The match is always going
to be dictated by serving and passing. When we execute, we
can play some nice volleyball and we just need to adapt our game to
the situation we're in. Overall we played hard and I liked
the effort."
Mary Baldwin College falls to 0-20 (0-10 USAS) while William
Peace, currently third in the North Division of the USA South
Athletic Conference, improves to 17-3 (8-2 USAS).
