Box Score Front Royal, VA - The Mary Baldwin College soccer team improved
their record to 2-0 with a win today over Christendom College
4-1.
Freshman Mayzie Lewis scored the Fighting Squirrels first goal
less than two minutes into the game then added another just over 30
minutes into the first half. Junior Caitlin Novak added a
third before the half.
In the final period, senior Windsor Vaughn added one more goal
to give Mary Baldwin the 4-1 win.
Coach Tehrani was happy with the fast attack by the Fighting
Squirrels. "We started very strong; scoring within the first minute
which was our fastest goal ever. We kept possession very well
in the first half and outshot the home team. In the second
half, we came out flat. They kept possession and controlled
the ball for the first 20 minutes in the final period but couldn't
create any serious attacks. We then controlled the final 25
minutes. We had 4 shots that hit the cross bar and finally
scored one more goal before the end of the game."
Overall, the head coach is pleased with the progress of the
team. "It was a very exciting game and the players are
showing that they are getting to know each other and playing as a
team. I was very proud of them,"added Coach Tehrani. "I
saw much improvement over the first game."
The Fighting Squirrels will be back in action Saturday afternoon
when they travel to Phoenixville, PA to take on the Patriots of
Valley Forge Christian Academy.
