Box Score STAUNTON, VA - The Mary Baldwin College soccer team celebrated
Senior Day this afternoon before its final home game of the
season. After honoring the seniors, the Fighting Squirrels
took on William Peace University in a USA South matchup.
The teams battled evenly in the first half with neither team
able to capitalize on their opportunities until Mari Mitterling
found herself open in front of the goal and shot over the
goalkeeper's head to put the visitors ahead 1-0.
As the clock ran out in the first half, Mary Baldwin held a 10-9
shot advantage while Peace held a 3-1 corner kick
advantage.
The teams continued to battle in the second half. At the
77:24 minute mark, Mayzie Lewis tied the game for the Fighting
Squirrels when she dodged a defender and got a clear shot about 10
yards out.
It appeared that the game would go into overtime when Katie
Hodges scored the winning goal at the 88:36 minute mark for the
Pacers. The visitors scored their final goal with just 10
seconds to play giving Peace the 3-1 win.
Mary Baldwin College, 2-13-0 (0-11 USAS), play their final game
of the season next Wednesday at Greensboro College.
