Box Score STAUNTON, VA - Mary Baldwin College dropped its record to 0-6 in
the USA South Athletic Conference with a 1-10 loss to Averett
University this afternoon in women's soccer.
The Cougars scored their first goal early in the game when
Ebonee Strother crossed the ball to Pippa Burge for the
score. Minutes later Julia Ritcey headed the ball in for a
second goal after the ball was deflected off of a shot by teammate
Amanda Gustavsson.
Averett's third goal came at the 8:44 minute mark when Burge got
her second goal of the day from a shot 20 yards out.
Johanna Ohrnberg added two more goals for the Cougars while
Julia Ritcey scored her second goal of the day to give Averett the
6-0 lead.
Mary Baldwin then got on the board when Kadijah Jones scored on
a shot 25 yards out just over the goalkeepers head.
Averett then added four goals in the second half while holding
the Fighting Squirrels scoreless in the final 45 minutes to take
the 10-1 win.
Averett outshot Mary Baldwin 25-10 and held an 8-1 advantage in
corner kicks.
Katherine Carrillo-Perez, Mary Baldwin's freshman goalkeeper,
finished with 4 saves while Kim Josephson and Ashley Jones split
the duty for Averett and finished with 2 saves each.
Mary Baldwin College 2-8 (0-6 USAS) travel to Ferrum on
Friday.
