Box Score STAUNTON, VA - Senior Shanice Miles scored a career-high 37
points today on Senior Day but the Mary Baldwin College Fighting
Squirrels fell just short of defeating William Peace University
51-56.
With the game tied at 7, William Peace took advantage of Mary
Baldwin's offensive struggles and went on a 13-0 run. Mary
Baldwin fought back but the visitors were able to take a 32-21 lead
into the half behind their full court pressure defense.
Miles led all scorers with 14 points at the break going 4-9 from
behind the arc.
The Pacers kept control during the first six minutes of the
second half building a 42-28 lead. Miles then followed two
made free throws with a jumper to bring Mary Baldwin to within
10.
Mary Baldwin then went on an 8-2 run to pull within 4 off of a
made free throw with just over 9 minutes to play. The teams
traded baskets but Mary Baldwin could never take the lead, coming
to within two with 2:28 remaining.
The Pacers went 8-8 from the charity stripe in the final minute
to secure the 56-51 USA South win.
Mary Baldwin College had one of their best games of the season
taking a 44-40 advantage on the boards and holding their turnovers,
which have plaqued them all season, to just 18.
Senior Shanice Miles led all scorers and set a career-high 37
points this afternoon. Lindsey Poirot grabbed 11 rebounds while
Jazmine Brooks pulled down 9 boards.
Mary Baldwin College (0-21, 0-15) will have little time to rest
as they host Meredith College tomorrow at 2:00PM.
