Soccer Drops First Game on the Road

Box Score

CHAMBERSBURG, PA - The Mary Baldwin College soccer team started the season on the road this afternoon traveling to Wilson College in Pennsylvania.

The home team struck first when Brittney Poff scored off of a corner kick less than five minutes into the game.  The Phoenix then added a second goal at the 18:53 mark when Nana Ama ohene-Manu scored her first goal of the season.  ohene-Manu scored a second unassisted goal to give Wilson a 3-0 lead at the half.

Wilson dominated the first half outshooting Mary Baldwin 9-1.  They also had more opportunites than the Fighting Squirrels finishing the half with 7 corner kicks to Mary Baldwin's 1.

The second half proved to be very different from the first 45 minutes.  The teams finished with 4 shots and 1 corner kick each.

Mary Baldwin got on the board at the 58:29 minute mark when Jannelly Ramos scored her first goal of her college career off of a Penalty Kick.

Wilson also managed one goal in the second half giving them the 4-1 win.

Head Coach Homes Tehrani said, "We had lots of injuries and had players playing in positions they just weren't used to playing.  It took us 20 minutes to settle in but it was too late.  However, we played much better in the second half.  We had several golden opportunties to score but we didn't capitalize on those opportunities.  We are still trying to learn each other's movements and we are a young team.  Several players really stepped up.  Johanna, Phoebe, and Lizette all played really well.  We played a very good organized team.  We are looking forward to the next game."

Assistant Coach Sarah Jerome added, "The first half was rough with a 3-0 halftime score but we tied 1-1 in the second half.  Lizette, Phoebe, and Johanna had fantastic games.  Jannelly easily put away the PK she earned.  We are not satisfied with the way we played because we have much to accomplish and work toward, but for the first game, we began to play as a team and made some good connecting passes that just couldn't get through."

Mary Baldwin College (0-1, 0-0 USAS) host Christendom Tuesday afternoon at home.  The game begins at 5:00 PM.
