Box Score 2 GREENSBORO, NC - The Mary Baldwin College volleyball team
traveled back to Greensboro today to take on William Peace and N.C.
Wesleyan College in USA South Conference play.
William Peace narrowly defeated Mary Baldwin in the first match
of the day 3-0 (25-23, 25-23, 25-15).
The two teams remained close in the first set. Trailing 19-21,
Katelyn Rice's kill brought the Fighting Squirrels to within one
point. Megan Mansfield answered with a kill for William
Peace. The teams then traded service errors. Kennedy
Quick and Tempestt Frazier added kills for their respective
teams. Farrah Fullerton brought Mary Baldwin back to within
one point but a kill by Laura Bland sealed the win for the
Pacers.
In the second set, William Peace jumped out to a 13-8 lead and
held on when the Fighting Squirrels went on a 4-point run to tie
the game at 22. An error by MBC and two kills by Peace gave
the Pacers the win and the 2-0 lead.
William Peace again built a lead in the third set and rolled to
their largest victory (25-15) and the match win.
Katelyn Rice led Mary Baldwin with 11 kills. She was
followed by Farrah Fullerton who added 7. Reilly Kelly added
25 assists. Defensively, Xenna Belfield led the team with 10
digs while Rice added 9.
Mary Baldwin found themselves in another close match against
N.C. Wesleyan College but the Battling Bishops were able to pull
away at the end of the sets to claim the 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-15)
win.
Katelyn Rice again led Mary Baldwin with 14 kills. Reilly
Kelly finished with 23 assists while Xenna Belfield led the defense
with 11 digs. Kelly contributed 10.
Mary Baldwin College (0-13, 0-3 USAS) continue conference play
at home Tuesday night when they host Averett University at 7:00
PM.
