Box Score 2 STAUNTON, VA- The Mary Baldwin College Volleyball Team hosted a
USA South Quad
Match this weekend featuring the Fighting Squirrels, the Monarchs
of Methodist University, the Avenging Angels of Meredith College,
and the Pride of Greensboro College.
The first match of the day saw Mary Baldwin facing Methodist
University. The Monarchs won
the match 3-2 (25-16, 21-25, 22-25, 25-19, and 15-9).
Methodist executed very well on offense in the first set posting a
a .259 hitting percentage easily won 16-25.
The beginning of the second set saw both teams trading points back
and forth. Kennedy Quick tied the set at 13-13 with a kill. MBC
stepped it up. Katie Rice and Makayla Scott each followed with
serving aces and Farrah Fullerton added another kill. Mary Baldwin
was able to shift the momentum in their favor and take the set
25-21.
The third set was hard fought. Both teams traded points back and
forth to reach a tie at 22-22. Mary Baldwin then took advantage of
an attacking error by Methodist and Katie Rice and Farrah Fullerton
each had critical kills for the home team giving them the 25-23
win.
Consistency proved to be the difference in the final sets as
Methodist added 19 kills to their total for the match while
minimizing their errors. The monarchs won both sets 25-19 and 15-9
respectively.
The Fighting Squirrels were led in digs by Xenna Belfield with 33
while Katie Rice and Jessica
Hickman contributed with 19 and 17 respectively. Katie Rice led
with 16 kills and Kennedy
Quick, Jessica Hickman, and Farrah Fullerton had 8, 7, and 6
respectively. Sara Valdivieso
contributed with 29 of the 36 assists.
The Monarchs were led in kills by Ryann Appleby and Grace Crawford
who had 11 each. Karly
Klimas contributed with 30 digs and Maggie Harris had 22
assists.
The second match of the day for Mary Baldwin had the Fighting
Squirrels facing The Avenging
Angels of Meredith College. MBC looked like a completely different
team as Meredith easily won in 3 sets (25-13, 25-10, and
25-14).
The Fighting Squirrels were led in assists by Sara Valdivieso with
12. Katie Rice and Jessica
Hickman contributed with 7 and 4 kills respectively and Xenna
Belfield had 5 digs.
Meredith was led in kills by Katelyn Rall who had 7. Katie Keen,
Haylee Parks, and Hannah
Blaylock had 8 assists each.
Mary Baldwin continues conference play on Thursday at Ferrun
College.
