Box Score Lookout Mountain, GA - Covenant College improved their record to
2-7 in the USA South this evening with a 85-44 win over Mary
Baldwin.
The Scots quickly jumped out to a 7-0 lead but Mary Baldwin
pulled back to within three with just over 11 minutes to play in
the first half. The teams traded baskets over the next five
minutes with Covenant gaining only a slight 20-14
advantage.
Mary Baldwin then went cold as Covenant finished the half with a
13-4 run to take a 33-18 lead at the break.
The Scots shot 33.3% from the floor including 3 for 9 from
behind the arc. Mary Baldwin controlled the boards grabbing
27 rebounds to Covenant's 23. The Fighting Squirrels also
greatly improved their offense and held their turnovers to just 9
for the half.
The second half proved to be all Covenant. In the final 20
minutes, the home team shot 45% (9-20) from three point range and
42.6% from the floor.
Covenant was led by Haley Soles who went 6-9 from behind the
arch scoring a game-high 20 points.
Mary Baldwin was led by Imani Hill and Kaybria Johnson who
scored 13 points each. Teanna Peavy grabbed a career-high 18
rebounds for the Fighting Squirrels. Peavy also added 8
points.
Mary Baldwin College 0-12 (0-6 USA South) will have little time
to rest as they face nationally-ranked Maryville College tomorrow
afternoon on the road before returning home next week.
