Box Score STAUNTON, VA - The Mary Baldwin College volleyball team celebrated Senior Night during their final home match of the season. Sarah Crumbly, the team's only senior, was honored before play began.
The Fighting Squirrels hosted the Cougars from Averett University. The visitors, who are currently second in the northern division of the USA South, jumped out to an early lead in the first two sets and defeated Mary Baldwin 3-0 (25-12, 25-14, 25-19).
Averett was led by Hannah Shields who finished with 11 kills. Libero Christiana Summa led the defense for the visitors with 11 digs. The Cougars were also helped by their service game which totaled 15 aces on the night.
Katelyn Rice and Farrah Fullerton led Mary Baldwin with 7 kills each. Rice also led the defense with 10 digs. Reilly Kelly added 17 assists.
After the match, Coach Yee talked about his only senior. He said, "Crumbs is a transfer and has played 2 years here. I am proud of her leadership and her committment. She has improved a lot over her 2 seasons and that has been fun to watch."
Mary Baldwin College, 2-26 (0-16 USAS), finish the season on the road. The Fighting Squirrels travel to Ferrum College next Tuesday then to Alabama over the weekend.
