Box Score STAUNTON, VA - The Mary Baldwin College soccer team celebrated Senior Day this afternoon as part of Mary Baldwin College's Parents' Weekend.
Brenda Santamaria, Johnna Bingham, Johanna Brann, and the team's manager, Koren Okpodu were all honored for their contributions to the team.
Brenda Santamaria has played 45 games for the Fighting Squirrels after battling back from an injury during her freshman season. She is the team's co-captain and has scored 13 goals and tallied 5 assists. Santamaria has been named to the USA South Academic All-Conference team and was also named USA South Rookie of the Week during her freshman year. She is a Spanish major and a Psychology and Coaching and Exercise Leadership minor.
Johnna Bingham has played on the soccer team for three years as a defender. She works very hard on and off the field. A major in Biology with a biomedical emphasis, Bingham is a volunteer EMT at a local rescue squad and works at the campus Civic and Global Engagement Center. She has also received early admission into Mary Baldwin's Murphy Deming College of Health Sciences PA program.
Johanna Brann is a Senior from Newport News, Virginia. She is majoring in psychology and minoring in criminal justice. While studying abroad last may term, she fell even more in love with criminal justice. After graduation in May, she plans on joining the Coast Guard through the officer program.
Team manager Koren Okpodu is an International Affairs major and is an Ubuntu mentor in the office of inclusive excellence. She is an audio manager for MBC radio and has been working and volunteering at VSDB since she began her studies at Mary Baldwin.
Ferrum College spoiled Mary Baldwin's celebration defeating the Fighting Squirrels 11-0. The Panthers jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first half as the visitors outshot MBC 16-1.
Mary Baldwin's starting goalkeeper, Brittany Tenn, played in the first half and tallied 6 saves. Samantha Chong anchored the goal in the second half and finished with 3 saves.
Mary Baldwin College, 3-8 (0-6 USAS), travel to Maryville College to play the Scots Sunday at 1:00 PM.
