Box Score STAUNTON, VA - Freshman Teanna Peavy grabbed a career-high 24
rebounds this afternoon as Mary Baldwin fell to Meredith College
49-80 in women's basketball.
The visitor's held a slight 20-15 lead with nine minutes
remaining in the half. Then, their offense caught fire when
the Avenging Angels went on a 32-14 run to end the half.
Meredith shot an impressive 50% from the floor including 8-16 from
behind the arc in the first 20 minutes.
Mary Baldwin also had one of their best offensive halves of the
season. The Fighting Squirrels executed a more balanced
scoring attack in the half led by Imani Hill who tallied 10
points. Ayanni Seay added 6 points. She was followed by
Kaybria Johnson with 5 and Tejava Ivory with 4.
Mary Baldwin also held a slight advantage on the boards.
In the second half, Meredith's offense cooled but the damage had
been done and the Fighting Squirrels simply couldn't overcome the
lead built by the visitors.
Mary Baldwin's inside game showed promise. The fighting
Squirrels not only grabbed more boards than the visitors but also
had more second chance points. The Fighting Squirrels also
finished with 28 points in the paint.
In addition to her 24 rebounds, Teanna Peavy scored 9
points. Fellow freshman Ayanni Seay and Sophomore Imani Hill
scored 12 points each. Seay also grabbed 9 boards while Hill
added 3 assists.
Mary Baldwin College 0-16 (0-10 USA South) host Greensboro
College Wednesday. Tip-off is 6:00 PM.
