Balanced Scoring Attack Lifts Averett Over MBC

DANVILLE, VA - Averett University used a balanced scoring attack to defeat Mary Baldwin 83-33 this evening in women's basketball.

Brianna Taylor sank a jumper at the 12:13 minute mark to give Averett a 10 point lead in the first half.  Mary Baldwin pulled to within 4 points when Tejava Ivory answered with back-to-back jumpers.  The Cougars then went on a 9-0 run to take a 26-13 lead at the 7:07 mark.

Mary Baldwin answered again with a 7-0 run when Precious Parker sank two layups and Kaybria Johnson sank a three point shot off of an assist by Parker.

Averett controlled the final 4 1/2 minutes turning a six point lead into a 20 point lead at the half.

Mary Baldwin struggled offensively in the second half scoring their first basket at the 13:16 minute mark.  The Cougars took full advantage and continued to build their lead throughout the second half.

The Cougars were led by Samm Chandler who finished with 20 points and 13 rebounds.  She was followed closely by Aundrea Burns and Jessica Myers with 18 points each.

Kaybria Johnson led the Fighting Squirrels with 13 points.  She was followed by Tejava Ivory with 6.  Teanna Peavy grabbed 9 rebounds for the visitors.

Mary Baldwin College 0-20 (0-14 USAS) will be on the road again this weekend.  They play William Peace on Saturday and Meredith on Sunday.  Both games begin at 2:00PM.
