Box Score Fayetteville, NC - The Mary Baldwin College basketball team
dropped two USA South Conference games this weekend on the road in
North Carolina. The Fighting Squirrels fell to N.C. Wesleyan
College 83-29 on Saturday and to Methodist University 53-24 on
Sunday.
On Saturday, N.C. Wesleyan College played with only five players
due to injury, illness and concussions. Mary Baldwin traveled
without starter Imani Hill and lost Jazmine Brooks during the
game.
The Battling Bishops held a 8-4 lead with just over 5 minutes
into the game. The home team then went on a 21-0 run in the
next 9 minutes to take a commanding lead with just 4:44 remaining
in the half. N.C. Wesleyan continued to build their lead
behind a balanced scoring attack while Mary Baldwin struggled
offensively all afternoon.
Kaybria Johnson led Mary Baldwin with 9 points. Tevanah
Charlemagne added 8 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Teanna
Peavy lead the team with 8 boards.
Methodist University used ball pressure to create numerous
turnovers and built a steady lead in the first half. The
Monarchs took full advantage of Mary Baldwin's turnovers finishing
the day with 26 points off of the errors. Mary Baldwin
controlled the boards but couldn't convert on the offensive end of
the floor all afternoon.
Shantelle Jennings led a balanced scoring attack finishing with
7 points. She was followed by Kaybria Johnson (6), Tejava
Ivory (5), Teanna Peavy (4), and Tevanah Charlemagne (2).
Kaybria Johnson led the team in rebounds with 10 boards.
Charlemagne grabbed 8 while Peavy added 7.
Mary Baldwin College 0-19 (0-13 USAS) travel to Averett
University on Wednesday.
