STAUNTON, VA - The Mary Baldwin College soccer team came from behind to defeat Gallaudet 3-2 this afternoon in women's soccer.
The Fighting Squirrels struck first when Mayzie Lewis scored at the 12:12 minute mark to give the home team the 1-0 lead in the first half.
The Bison came back in the second half scoring their first goal off of a penalty kick due to a Mary Baldwin hand ball. The visitors then quickly took the lead less than 4 minutes later when Danielle Davidson score her first goal of the season.
Down 1-2, Johanna Brann answered with her first goal of the season from the left side when Mary Baldwin got out in front of Gallaudet's defense just two minutes later.
The visitors then outshot Mary Baldwin 7-2 over the next 18 minutes but the second shot was all Mary Baldwin needed when Mayzie Lewis found the back of the net to give Mary Baldwin the lead and the win.
Mary Baldwin tallied 15 shots to Gallaudet's 13 shots for the game. MBC also held a slight 6-2 advantage on corner kicks. Both teams finished with 6 saves. Mary Baldwin's goalkeeper Brittany Tenn improved her record to 2-2 while Gallaudet's Jennifer Levingood fell to 0-3.
Mary Baldwin College, 2-2 (0-0 USAS), travel to Hollins Sunday for a non-conference matchup. Kickoff is 2:00PM.
