Box Score ROANOKE, VA - The Mary Baldwin College soccer team defeated Hollins University this afternoon 8-1 in non-conference play. The Fighting Squirrels dominated play in the first half taking a 6-0 lead into the break.
Bethany Rusticelli scored her first goal in her college career when she gave Mary Baldwin a 1-0 lead at the 20:04 minute mark. Kalli-Anne Hymons followed with her first goal eight minutes later. Brenda Santamaria then followed with two of her three goals today scoring quick back-to-back goals at 32:02 and 34:33. Jannelly Ramos assisted the second goal. Layla Williams added her first goal that was assisted by Mayzie Lewis. Lewis then tallied one more goal just before the half.
Mary Baldwin outshot Hollins 18-7 in the first half and held a slight 3-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Mayzie Lewis and Brenda Santamaria each scored one additional goal in the second half while Ciera Morris scored Hollins lone goal just before the game ended at the 86:32 minute mark.
Mary Baldwin goalkeeper Brittany Tenn improves her record to 3-2 tallying 8 saves today.
Mary Baldwin College 3-2 (0-0 USAS) begins USA South Conference play on Friday traveling to Covenant College at Lookout Mountain, GA. Covenant was picked to finish 6th in the preseason coaches' poll. The Fighting Squirrels then take on Piedmont College on Saturday who were voted 3rd in the preseason poll.
