HARRISONBURG, VA - The Mary Baldwin College volleyball team dropped two matches this afternoon on their first day of play at the Eastern Mennonite University Invitational.

In the first match, the Fighting Squirrels lost a close match with Hood College 1-3 (24-26, 19-25, 26-24, 24-26).

In the first set, Hood jumped out to a 10-7 lead.  Mary Baldwin then went on a 9-0 run behind the hard serve of Jessica Hickman to lead 16-10.

The two teams traded points and Mary Baldwin found themselves with a 23-16 lead.  Hood then went on their own run taking the first set 26-24.

In the second set, the teams found themselves tied at 17.  Hood then pulled ahead giving up only two points on their way to a 25-19 win.

In the third set, Mary Baldwin was able to pull ahead at the end after both teams were tied at 19 to trail 1-2.

The fourth set proved to be more of the same as both teams were again tied late in the set.  Hood then went on a 7-0 run behind the serve of Caroline Kinna to pull away 26-24.

Katelyn Rice led Mary Baldwin with 13 kills.  She was followed by freshman Samantha McGee who added 6 and Jessica Hickman and Farrah Fullerton who added 5 each.  Reilly Kelly finished with 26 assists.  Rice also finished with 13 digs.

In the second match of the afternoon, Catholic easily defeated Mary Baldwin 3-0 (25-10, 25-12, 25-8.)

In that match, Katelyn Rice and Jacklyn LaMoy led Mary Baldwin with 4 kills each.  Reilly Kelly added 12 assists while Kelly and Rice finished with 6 digs each.

Mary Baldwin College (0-4) will be back in action Saturday morning.  The Fighting Squirrels will take on Salem at 10:00am and finish tournament play with Goucher at noon.
