Johnson Leads Mary Baldwin Against Methodist

FAYETTEVILLE, NC - Kaybria Johnson scored 13 points in the first quarter against Methodist University to give Mary Baldwin a 17-15 lead over the Monarchs after the first period.

Methodist University came back in the second quarter and took the lead over Mary Baldwin at the 7:30 mark when Lillian Geehring sank a 3-point shot.  The Monarchs continued to build on their lead throughout the remainder of the game and defeated Mary Baldwin 68-34.

Methodist University forced numerous turnovers and scored 38 points off of the errors.  The Monarchs also dominated inside scoring 44 points in the paint while also outrebounding the Fighting Squirrels 59-40.

Methodist University was led by Ayanna Peques who finished with 13 points.  Shakira Boswell added 10 rebounds.

Kaybria Johnson led all scorers finishing with 15 points while Teanna Peavy grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.

After the game, Coach Stephens said, "We did some great things tonight.  For 20 minutes, we played with a top team in our conference.  We won the first quarter and we played much better on defense for the whole game."

Mary Baldwin College 0-11 (0-3 USAS) continue conference play on Saturday when they host Meredith College.
