Soccer Celebrates Senior Day

Box Score

STAUNTON, VA - The Mary Baldwin University soccer team celebrated senior day this afternoon during halftime of their game against Averett University.

At the half, Mary Baldwin's only senior, Mayzie Lewis was honored.  Lewis has been a member of Mary Baldwin's soccer team for four years and has scored 27 goals in her career.  She has also tallied 6 assists.  She has received the team's Best Offensive Player for each of her three years of play.

After the game, Head Coach Kyle Congleton said, "In my short time coaching Mayzie she has demonstrated the most important and in demand characteristics any coach would want.  She is coachable, resilient and dedicated to improving her knowledge of the game.  As a prospective elementary school teacher her students will be lucky to have someone so committed to their development as she is to her own.  She will be greatly missed."

The Fighting Squirrels fell to Averett University 0-12.  The Cougars jumped out to a 8-0 lead at the half.  Johanna Ohrnberg scored Averett's first goal at the 2:15 minute mark and finished the day with five goals.

Brittany Tenn, Mary Baldwin's goalkeeper, tallied 9 saves.

Mary Baldwin University, 0-11, take on Meredith College Sunday afternoon at 1pm.
