Box Score HARRISONBURG, VA - The Mary Baldwin University volleyball team opened the 2016 season at EMU this afternoon against Lynchburg College.
The Fighting Squirrels fell in four sets 9-25, 16-25, 25-20, and 10-25.
Mary Baldwin's defense was much improved but the team struggled offensively.
Katie Rice led the team with 7 kills. She was followed by Farrah Fullerton with 3. Xenna Belfield led the defense with 21 diggs while Rice added 13.
Farrah Fullerton also tallied 3 blocks in the match to give her a career high 83 blocks. Fullerton takes over the 8th spot in career blocks at Mary Baldwin.
Reilly Kelly finished the match with 13 assists.
Head coach Paul Yee said, "We saw some really good effort and made some great plays on defense tonight to keep us in it. Overall, we just need to keep getting better and handle the situations we are in."
The Fighting Squirrels continue play tomorrow at EMU at 10:00am and 2:00pm.
