Box Score ROANOKE, VA - The Mary Baldwin University volleyball team got their first win of the season tonight when they defeated Hollins University 3-1 (25-22, 25-21, 18-25, 25-17).
In the first set, Mary Baldwin jumped out to a 17-9 lead. The home team answered with a six point run to tie the set at 22-22. Farrah Fullerton then gave Mary Baldwin a critical point with a kill. Makayla Scott added a service ace and Jessica Hickman added another kill to give Mary Baldwin the win.
The second set remained close throughout but Mary Baldwin was able to hold a slight lead and to take a 2-0 advantage in the match. The Fighting Squirrels were helped by a solid offense hitting .303 for the set.
After Hollins answered with a 25-18 win in the 3rd set, Mary Baldwin took the match with their biggest win all night outscoring Hollins 25-17.
Katelyn Rice led Mary Baldwin with 19 kills and 21 digs. Farrah Fullerton added 12 kills while Xenna Belfield tallied 19 digs. Reilly Kelly finshed with 40 assists.
Mary Baldwin University (1-3) continues play Friday at the Maroon Classic at Roanoke College. The Fighting Squirrels face Hollins again at 5:00pm before battling conference rival Ferrum College at 7:00pm.
