Salem Edges Mary Baldwin in Second Half

STAUNTON, VA - The Mary Baldwin University women's basketball team hosted USA South opponents Greensboro College and Salem College over the weekend.

On Saturday, Greensboro College improved their conference record to 6-1 and held their second spot in the east division with a 100-55 win over the Fighting Squirrels.

Mary Baldwin University hosted Salem College on Sunday afternoon.

After trailing at the end of the first period against Salem, the Fighting Squirrels went on a 20-7 run in the second to take a five point lead into the half.  Cauy Duboise and Cheyanne Micheal combined for 4-4 from behind the arc to spark the home team.

The two teams continued to battle in the second half.  Tied at 40 with 3:33 remaining in the third period, Salem took control of the game with a 14-1 run. 

Mary Baldwin's efforts fell short in the final period and Salem took the win 69-54.

Mikayla Seivers led the Spirits with 20 points while grabbing 14 rebounds.

Mary Baldwin shot an impressive 40.9% from beyond the arch and was led by Cauy DuBoise who tallied 19 points.  Cheyanne Micheal added 14 points while DuBoise and Jalyssa Melendez grabbed 7 boards each for Mary Baldwin.

Mary Baldwin University, 1-13 (0-6 USAS), continue conference play on Wednesday traveling to Averett University then Raleigh, NC over the weekend to take on William Peace University and Meredith College.
