Box Score STAUNTON, Va. – The Mary Baldwin women's soccer team defeated Averett at home on Wednesday afternoon, 2-0.
The Fighting Squirrels improve to 5-11 and 1-6 in the conference while the Cougars fall to 0-17 and 1-6 in the USA South.
In the first half neither side found the back of the net although the Fighting Squirrels tallied 15 shots to the Cougars three.
In the second half, Annie Ammons broke the scoreless draw with a goal in the 60th minute from a shot outside of the 18 -yard box. Minutes later, Elena Guy took a ball from Ammons after a diving keeper missed the ball. The two goals were the lone tallies of the game as MBU held on for the 2-0 victory.
The Fighting Squirrels outshot the Cougars 27-3 and held the edge on corner kicks 8-2.
Anyka Wilkin got the win in net for MBU, improving to 5-11 while Morgann Dills fell to 0-16.
Mary Baldwin will return to action on October 26 when they travel to Salem for a 2 PM kickoff.
