Box Score

STAUNTON, Va. – After nearly an hour and a half of delays due to storms in the area, the Mary Baldwin University women's soccer team returned to action with a 3-1 win against Wilson College on Wednesday night at SMA Worth Field.

The Fighting Squirrels get their third victory on the season and move to 3-1, while the Phoenix are knocked off for the first time and also sit at 3-1 overall.

Mary Baldwin got the ball rolling with the first goal in the 33rd minute with a goal by Elena Guy, which is her fourth of the season. The goal served as the lone score in the first half as MBU held a 1-0 advantage at the recess.

The Phoenix answered with their first and only goal of the day in the 50th minute by Kat Romero to start off the second half. The Fighting Squirrels scored the would-be game-winning goal in the 58th minute by Marisol Mercado. Mary Baldwin added an insurance goal at the 63:39 mark by Caroline Metivier who received a pass from Annie Ammons off a corner kick set piece. Anyka Wilkin got her third victory in the cage, as she pushed aside one of the two shots she faced.

MBU outshot the Phoenix 15-2 and had a large advantage on corner kicks, 7-0.

The Fighting Squirrels return to action on Saturday, September 14, when they travel to Notre Dame (Md.) with schedule first touch at 1 pm.
