Mary Baldwin stopped in Overtime

STAUNTON, Va. – The Mary Baldwin University women's soccer team took on Marymount University at home on Wednesday afternoon. The game went into overtime and MBU lost 2-1 in the 91st minute.

The Fighting Squirrels move to 3-4 while the Saints improve to 2-4-1 on the season.

Mary Baldwin was the first team to get on the board in the 26th minute with a goal by Julissa Gamboa, who took a loose ball inside the box, dribbled between three defenders and went bar down for the first goal in her MBU career.

MU would go on the attack before halftime outshooting MBU 15-9 and scoring its first goal of the contest in the 41st minute by Courtney Stephens who played the ball through a defender before retrieving her own loose ball and scoring.

Overtime only lasted 44 seconds when Stephens scored her second goal of the afternoon on a rebound header after the goalie blocked the first shot.

Maia Pappadakis improves to 1-4-1 in the net while Anyka Wilkin moves to 3-3 on the season. Wilkin had 12 saves in the net for the Fighting Squirrels.

Marymount outshot the Fighting Squirrels in the contest 27-16.

The Fighting Squirrels return to action on Friday, September 20th at 7 pm when they travel to Wesleyan College.
