Women's Soccer Opens Home Schedule with 6-0 WIn

STAUNTON, Va. – Behind a four-goal performance by Mikayla Taylor, the Mary Baldwin University women's soccer team registered a dominating 6-0 win against Hollins University on Wednesday evening. 

The Fighting Squirrels move to 2-0 on the season, while Hollins drops to 1-2.

Mary Baldwin got the ball rolling as Taylor scored the initial goal of the game in the eighth minute, with an assist from Elena Guy. Two minutes later, Guy scored a goal with an assist from Taylor o put MBU up 2-0 with 35 minutes left in the half. Near the end of the half Taylor and Guy connected again to put the Fighting Squirrels up 3-0 at halftime. 

In the second half Taylor completed her hat trick by scoring her third goal of the game from a feed by Nahimana Scola. In the 58th minutes Annie Ammons scored her first goal of the year with an assist from Logan Metts. Taylor scored her fourth and final goal of the competition in the 66th minute to go up 6-0 which held the final. 

Overall, Mary Baldwin outshot Hollins 34-0 with 16 shots on goal. MBU also claimed an advantage on corner kicks, 12-0. 

Goalkeeper Anyka Wilkin record her second shutout of the season. 

The Fighting Squirrels return to action on Saturday, September 7 at 7 pm when they travel to Wesley College.
