Box Score WINSTON-SLEM, N.C. - Cyanne Harkins scored two goals in the first 11 minutes Tuesday afternoon and that proved to be enough as Mary Baldwin shut out Salem College 2-0 in USA South Athletic Conference action.
Harkins scored with just 7:19 elapsed in the first half on a shot from 20 yards out that just eluded the outstretched hand of Salem goalkeeper Jordan Tomberlin.
Less than three minutes later Harkins scored again.
Shea Rider took a shot that hit the crossbar and the ball bounced in the direction of Hawkins who put the rebound past the keeper for her second goal of the game. Harkins now has four goals on the season.
Nyasia Hawkins finished the contest with 14 saves to record her first shutout of the season.
With the victory, the Fighting Squirrels improved to 8-4-1 overall and 4-1-1 in the conference. MAry Baldwin sits in second place in the USA South East Division standings.
Mary Baldwin is back in action Friday afternoon when the Squirrels host Meredith.
