Women's Soccer Loses Tough 2-1 Match To Meredith

The Mary Baldwin women's soccer team lost a tough 2-1 decision to Meredith on Friday afternoon in a key USA South contest played at SMA Worth Field. The contest was the final home match of the season for the Fighting Squirrels and the final home regular-season contest for seniors Cyanne Harkins and Elena Guy.

After a scoreless first half, the visitors took the lead when Meredith Warrick scored on a free kick from 35 yards out  in the 65th minute.

MBU tied the score five minutes later. Teya Baptista pushed forward from the back line and sent a ball ahead toward the box. Harkins got past the defender and scored from close range, tying the score at 1-1.

Morgan Thomas scored the game-winner for Meredith in the 81st minute, putting the visitors back on top 2-1.

Mary Baldwin held a 16-9 edge in total shots, while corner kicks were even at four apiece.

MBU, now 8-5-1 and 4-2-1 in conference play, travels to Greensboro College on Wednesday..
