Box Score GREENSBORO, N.C. - Mary Baldwin dropped its conference volleyball match to Greensboro College in straight sets Tuesday night 25-9, 25-20, 25-20.
After the Pride controlled play in the opening set, Mary Baldwin played much better in the final two sets.
In the second set, the Squirrels tied the score at 9-9 with four straight points. Kills by Rachel Christian and Sydney Clarke and an ace from Kate Rudolph sparked the run. After four straight points by the home team, Hannah Myers put down a kill to pull MBU to within 13-10. The Pride then scored six of the next seven points to take control of the set, 19-11.
MBU jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead in the third set with three service aces by Soleil Rios Rolon and two kills by Alexis Edmonds leading the charge. Kills by Clarke and Myers plus two aces by Edmonds kept the Squirrels out front 12-4. Greensboro ran off six straight points to close to within 12-10 before a kill by Myers made it 13-10. Greensboro overtook the Squirrels with five straight points to lead 15-13, but Mary Baldwin pulled even at 15-15 on two errors by the Pride. A kil by Edmonds gave MBU its final lead at 17-16. A kill by Clarke kept the visitors even at 19-19 and a kill by Edmonds tied the score at 20-20. Greensboro then rattled off the final five points in a row to close out the match.
Clarke paced he Squirrels with nine kills and Edmonds added seven. Clarke also led the team with 15 digs and Emily Link passed out a team-high nine assists.
Mary Baldwin returns to aciton Thursday night when it hosts Roanoke College in a non-conference match.
