Methodist scored two goals in the first half Saturday and held off Mary Baldwin in the final 45 minutes to take a 2-1 victory in USA South conference action.

The Monarchs took the lead with a goal by Alexis Lemons in the 27th minute and then added a goal by Kelsey Burge off a corner kick late in the first half to put the visitors ahead 2-0.

Mary Baldwin got on the board when Annie Ammons scored just 1:03 into the second half, trimming the deficit to 2-1. The goal was the seventh of the season for Ammons.

Mary Baldwin kept the pressure on Methodist throughout the second half, outshooting the Monarchs 16-3, but the Squirrels were unable to score the tying goal.

Mary Baldwin dropped to 5-4-1 overall and 1-1-1 in the conference while Methodist improved to 5-1, 3-0.
