Box Score The Mary Baldwin University women's soccer team defeated William Peace 2-0 on Friday Afternoon.
Friday's win helped the Fighting Squirrels set a team record for the most USA South wins in a season.
Both teams came out firing early. Just one minute into the game Katie Hayes took a shot from outside the box that would sail just high.
In the 5th minute, Anyka Wilkin made a jumping save to prevent the Pacers from gaining an early lead off a free kick.
The Fighting Squirrels had a few more chances before the end of the half but were unable to capitalize.
In the second, Mary Baldwin kept knocking on the door with shots from Annie Ammons and Kaiden Scanlon.
In the 69th minute, Scanlon found Ammons who turned and took a couple of dribbles before ripping a shot in the top left corner from just outside the box, giving MBU a 1-0 lead.
10 minutes later Scanlon would find the back of the net herself after she collected the ball just inside the box on the right side, and placed a shot in the left side netting of the goal. The goal marked the first in her colligate career.
Wilkin and MBU's defense helped WPU keep scoreless. The Pacers were prevented many chances throughout the game due to MBU's backline forcing them offside.
Additionally, Wilkin recorded eight saves in her second shutout win of the season.
The Fighting Squirrels next game will be on Sunday as they head to Averett for a 4:00 p.m. game.
