Box Score 2 The Mary Baldwin volleyball team dropped two matches to North Carolina Wesleyan on Saturday. The first match was a USA South East Division match, well the second was marked as a non-conference match. With the results, MBU fell to 0-10 overall on the season and 0-5 in the USA South. North Carolina Wesleyan improved to 2-7 overall and 1-4 in the USA South.
Match 1: N.C. Wesleyan 3, MBU 0
The first game was a close battle as neither team led by more than one up until the end when a few attack errors by MBU helped the Battling Bishops to a 25-21 win.
Game two remained close until the midway point when N.C. Wesleyan would take off, ending it on an 11-2 to run to win 25-12
The Fighting Squirrels kept it close in game three but another late push by the Battling Bishops helped them to a 25-17 victory.
The Fighting Squirrels were led by Rachel Christian with 14 kills and five digs. Bella Perez-Smeed also had 11 digs and 11 assists while Madison Cash had 13 digs two assists and an ace.
Match 2: N.C. Wesleyan 3, MBU 0
After trailing for the majority of game, the Fighting Squirrels comeback effort fell just short in game one as N.C. Wesleyan won 25-21.
The Battling Bishops then pulled out another close one in game two 25-23, before taking game three 25-20.
Christian had 11 kills and 15 digs in the match. Emily Link had a game-high 30 assists while Madison cash had a team-high 18 digs. Jada Keene also had eight digs and hit .292 in the game.
The Fighting Squirrels will next hit the road as they travel to Greensboro on April 1 for a doubleheader starting at 4:30.
